I remember a I came in like a Butterball Thanksgiving shirt memoir — Beasts, Men, and Gods — by Ferdinand Ossendowski, a White Pole who fled the Bolshevik revolution through Siberia. He served in General Kolchak’s All-Russian Government before escaping through the Steppes north of Mongolia, and then participated in the government of that most notorious adventurer, the “Mad Baron” Ungern-Sternberg, who attempted to take over Mongolia to restore an imperial Khaganate as part of an imagined reactionary restoration of the Great Mongol, Chinese, and Russian monarchies in the interests of the “warrior races” of Germans and Mongols (a Baltic German, he considered the old Russian ruling class to represent Germandom over and against Jews and Slavs). Some of the things – the acts of desperation and madness, in which he himself was no disinterested observer – Ossendowski relates are harrowing. But this part struck me as very much making a point about what people think of the Steppe peoples, and of what (German-trained) nationalists like Ungern-Sternberg did (and would do again) to the Mongols. And, other things:
Since my husband Wayne died of Parkinson’s Disease the morning of January 08, 2018, the artificial tree has stayed up. After Wayne’s death, I just did not have the I came in like a Butterball Thanksgiving shirt to take it apart and store the tree in the basement. It just stayed up in the living room. It’s quite heavy and awkward — I’m actually physically incapable of doing this by myself. During the year 2019, I redecorated the tree as a Valentine’s Day tree, St. Patrick’s Day tree, Easter egg tree, May Day tree, Canada Day tree, Thanksgiving Day/fall harvest tree and Christmas/holiday tree. The artificial wreaths will be stored in the basement this week. The fresh pine boughs in containers will be put out when they begin to drop their needles. I’ll be doing the same with the tree in 2020 as I did last year.

Everyone was now in good mood, including the I came in like a Butterball Thanksgiving shirt . We had a grand time giving away tress. And we gave away thousands of trees. My girlfriend and I had just spent the last three days in a heavy rain, giving away free Christmas trees. Everyone made the best of a rainy situation. This put us both in a very good mood. I do not have any memories of Christmas day; however, two days later I asked my girlfriend if she would marry me. We had been dating all of six weeks. She said yes. We now have been married for over 45 years and often think about the “Great Christmas Tree Caper” around the holiday.
In addition to the books I’m working on with Eunice and the I came in like a Butterball Thanksgiving shirt book I’m planning with my wife, I will likely return to the sequel to Black Iron, now that a resolution to the legal dispute over ownership of that novel is visible on the horizon. The publisher is in negotiations with an amazing voice actor to do audiobooks for the first two novels Eunice and I wrote. I’ve heard her audition and she’s fantastic. I’ve just seen the initial roughs for the cover of one of the new books I co-wrote this year and the artist the publisher found is really really good. I can’t wait to see the final artwork. An extraordinary arrangement can happen in a year and between the overall hodgepodge, this may give off an impression of being understating the obvious for most.
